Teachers’ Day Celebration 2019

Teachers Day is celebrated very ardently every year throughout the country on 5th September. A joyous celebration of this occasion was conducted in G4 hall, PDM University Campus to honor the supreme and commendable efforts of all the teachers.

The blissful event commenced by invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswati while a student of Agriculture Department, Roshita, chanted a  prayer. After that the Hon’ble dignitaries were invited on the dias and a beautiful nosegay was presented to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) A K Bakshi by Prof. Yogesh Mathur, Dean F/o Physical Sciences and to Dean F/o Dental Sciences, Prof. (Dr.) Mandeep Singh by Prof. M E Haider, Dean F/o Education.

On this momentous day, Dr. Hema Chaudhary extended a warm welcome and highlighted that “a mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates and the great teacher inspires”. She started with a matchless Sanskrit shloka, appreciated the hard work of teachers and acquainted about some flamboyant personalities like Narendra Modi and Chanakya. She concluded by quoting some puissant lines of  Late President APJ Kalam.

Hon’ble Vice chancellor Sir extended his warm greetings and wished Teacher’s Day to all the teachers  and interacted with the symposium. He then enlightened about the purpose of celebrating this occasion, i.e., the birthday of Lt. President Sarvepalli Radhakrishan and mentioned his numerous contributions to the Indian Philosophy, amongst which is the Templeton Award, having possie analogous to Noble Prize in religion. He quoted that, “In India Philosophy, Guru is the incarnation of Lord Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu”.

He stated that career should be chosen that cogitates his passion and personality while briefing the challenges in teaching profession. He recounted that teachers are the real asset to the University. He delineated about the two roles of a teacher viz., Teaching & learning ( disseminating knowledge) and Research(Creating knowledge). He also put key points in the picture relating to New Education Policy while mentioning numerous Teaching-Learning Outcomes, highlighting the significance of ICT skills in teaching profession to keep abreast with the modern system of learning. He also discussed about the current phase of higher education in our country and narrated that, Unfortunately,  teachers are the inspired product of yesterday’s teaching system, they are teaching today’s student generation and preparing  future aspirants.

He notified the importance of examination but also awarded that nowadays, we emphasise only on rote learning and not on root learning. He said that all noble prize winners acknowledge that strong foundation of basics of the subjects is the substructure of a spiffing university. He perfervidly applealed to all the teachers to be self – disciplined, have an aim, attend conferences, possess publications, pursue post – doctorate studies and appreciate time. He conveyed best wishes to one and all and solicited the teachers to forge the students as mirrors, windows and doors of the University.The program proceeded further by making a verbal promise, i.e., “Pledge Ceremony” recited by Respected Vice Chancellor where in all the dignitaries along with the teachers took the pledge.

Then, a felicitation program was hosted by felicitating the teachers serving in PDM for at least 5 years,  with a certificate of appreciation as a token of gratitude. The programme reached towards the conclusion with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mandeep Singh. The event culminated with the National Anthem. Thereafter, scrumptious snacks were served for all the faculty members.
