Guest Lecture on Women Empowerment by Dean, Pharmaceutical Sciences
Women Empowerment Cell of Ikon Pharmacy College, Bengaluru, organized a webinar under the Webinar Series-4. The Resource person, Prof. (Dr.) Hema Chaudhary, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, PDMU was invited to deliver a lecture in this webinar. Dr Chaudhary delivered her talk on the topic “Women Empowerment: To Think equal, Build smart and Innovate for Change “on 21st October 2020. The Co-ordinator of the Webinar Series, Ms Soundaryashree, Asst. Prof, Ikon College of Pharmacy commenced the session by Introducing the theme and the resource person. Dr. S. Rajasekaran, Principal, Ikon Pharmacy College, welcomed the resource person Dr Chaudhary and all the participants. The event was conducted virtually on Google Meet platform from 11:00 am onwards.
Dr Hema Chaudhary spoke on various aspects of women empowerment, its importance and measures that can be taken to empower girls and women. She started her talk accentuating on Women empowerment is aimed for the creation of environment where women can live fearlessly, independently and have equal opportunities. She spoke on various Challenges involved in attaining Women Empowerment and highlighted the shocking facts about the status of women in current times. She quoted recently reported incidents such as Hathras case, Nirbaya case etc, pointing towards hurdles in empowering women. The participants were enlightened on various Constitutional Privileges and Government Acts and Schemes for girls/women implemented for the benefit of women. She also highlighted the International Efforts being taken for the empowerment of women.
She elucidated on the fact that Innovation can take the race for gender equality to its finishing line by 2030 and give us Planet 50-50.
She signified the importance to Think Equal on innovative ways in which gender equality can be achieved. She elaborated on the need to Innovate for change, as the social innovations and technologies are the key factors for achieving gender equality, unlocking human potential to build a smart future with equal rights and opportunities to all and achieve the ambitious Sustainable Development Goal laid by the UN. The speaker interacted with girl participants and briefed them with the importance of women empowerment and said that Gender equality is possible only when we see women’s rights as our common objective.
She highlighted the “Six S” (Shiksha, Samvedan, Swasthya, Samanata, Samajik Nyay and Swavlamban) required for true development of women. Last but not the least she highlighted on some famous women personalities who have made the nation proud and concluded the presentation with an inspiring quotation – “Today’s Girls with Ambition are Tomorrow’s Woman with Perception”
The webinar was very effective and students especially girls were highly satisfied and enthused at the end of this informative session. After the wonderful session. Dr. S Rajasekaran, Principal, Ikon Pharmacy College thanked Dr Hema Chaudhary for her motivational and inspiring talk and also thanked all the members who actively joined the webinar & appreciated the efforts of organizing team to make it happen. E-Certificates were extended to all the participants after the feedback form submission.
