Industrial cum Leisure Tour to Baddi-Manali

PDM College of Pharmacy organized industrial cum Leisure tour to Baddi and Manali for B. Pharmacy(Third and Fourth year) and M. Pharmacy(First and Second Year)students from 27th to 31st January 2016. Students boarded buses from Peeragarhi/Bahadurgarh on 27th Night and checked in at motel in Panchkula for a rest of 4 hours. During a weeklong tour, students visited two leading Pharmaceutical industries producing variety of Pharmaceutical Products. A team of 45 members including 42 students accompanied with three faculty members had been for the Tour with equal participation of both Girls and Boys.

Alembic Laboratories Ltd, Baddi plant was the first industry to which PDMCOP team paid their visit. Alembic Laboratories Ltd, widely known for its popular brands Glycodine, Althromycin(250 and 500) wikoryl and aziphral is a FDA,WHO approved organization with pharmaceutical products covering major therapeutic segments like Antibacterials, Pain Management, Antispasmodics, Cough & Cold Preparations along with medicines for Cardiac ailments, Diabetes, Dermatologicals, Anti-ulcerants, Antipyretics etc. in different dosage forms.

On arrival at industry, the Human Resource Manager of the company welcomed the students and briefed about Alembic. Students were surprised to note that Alembic is into manufacturing since 100 years. Students interacted with HR Manager of Alembic by asking their Doubts on basis of Pre-Study about company such as Export Import, GMP practice, Storage Conditions, Audits and Fresh B.Pharm Package at Alembic. After a Healthy Interaction, students were allowed to visit the industry along with a guide in a group of 21 students accompanied by faculty members. Students were advised some basic precautions before entering the production area to maintain aseptic conditions. Multiple Guides gave a presentation on overall production cycle of pharmaceutical products right from raw material purchase to marketing of finished products. During this interaction, Guide discussed about considerations to be made during purchase of raw materials, their storage, dispensing, production considerations, in-process quality control, labeling, packaging and distribution. He also made a mention of importance of contamination reduction and ways the industry is using to reduce contamination. After his presentation he escorted students to the production area. Before entering production area, students were asked to wear apron, mask, shoe cover and head cover so that no contamination enters the production area. Students got an opportunity to witness the production of Tablets and Syrups, Granulation, Compression, labeling and packing. The whole process and functioning of the machinery was described. He explained about the powder granulation and tableting machine which is used for the production of tablets. This hands on exposure helped students to gain real time knowledge of what they have been learning theoretically in their books. Before leaving the company, students took some group photos along with company managers.

After having a lunch after Alembic visit, students paid a visit to another industry; Helios Pharmaceuticals (India) Ltd. Helios Pharmaceuticals is into Production of Lotions, Ointments, Toothpaste and many other formulations. Helios Pharmaceuticals is also into contract based manufacturing with various Pharma Giants such as Dr. Reddy Laboratories, Sun Pharma and much more

The whole team of students was divided into two and was then escorted to their production area. During the round of their production area, they explained every minute details of their facility right from floor moping to maintaining Aseptic Conditions. They did not hesitate to answer the queries of the students and faculty members. Students were lucky enough to witness the overall production cycle of Ointments starting from storage to packaging and distribution area.

After a healthy visit to both the industries, students headed over to Manali for Leisure tour. After a Long journey of 14 Hours with Enroute Dinner, students checked in at 3 Star Hotel Park Residency by early morning on Quad Sharing basis with well laid Boys and Girls room distribution on different floors accompanied by faculty members in Suite Rooms.

After a rest of few hours, students had lavishing breakfast followed by visit to snowpoint. Students enjoyed the visit to snowpoint by experiencing live snowfall. Students returned back to hotel rooms safely by 3pm. DJ night party came as a cherry on top of cake in which not just students, even the faculty members along with tour coordinator enjoyed to the fullest.

On second day at Manali,students were headed to Manali’s Local sightseeing of Hadimba Temple, Mall Road etc along with faculty members followed by DJ Evening Party again as per special demand by students. After DJ Party students checked out from hotel and boarded buses for coming back to delhi.

Tour successfully ended up with Knowledge, Memories, Photos and Praise from Tour Coordinator as well as Hotel Manager for students being so well Mannered throughout the stay.
